SoulConnection is a Chicagoland youth group in association with the Chicago branch of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). SoulConnection offers many services to the community of Illinois, and now the world!
Under proper guidance, SoulConnection works hard to put out a quarterly newsletter (SoulNews), to work on musical performances (Darshana), to develop our scriptural understandings (Bhakti Sastri), and to have an organized group of teenagers having fun in Krishna Consciousness!
SoulConnection embodies the merger between two (seemingly) radically different groups: the serene, beautiful practice of Krishna Consciousness and the impulsive, sometimes overly energetic youth.
Considering that any spiritual endeavor should be undertook with spiritual guidance, we have many senior devotees who help us in our development.
Romapada Maharaj is an initiating leader in the ISKCON movement who has helped many of our members personally to create what you see today with SoulConnection.
A youth counselor and musician by profession, Subal Prabhu has helped us find our path with what we would like to do.
The main driving force behind the summer Gita Camp, Premananda Mataji has helped many of us with our core understanding of what Krishna Consciousness is.
A great devotee and a wonderful presence, Krishna Smarana Prabhu has inspired many good qualities in SoulConnection.
As president of the Chicago Temple and working as good council, Nityananda Prana Prabhu has helped SoulConnection grow as well.
In the late 1800s, a young child named Abhay Charan was born in Calcutta, India (now known as Kolkata). After a very religious upbringing in British India, Abhay had his own Ratha Yatra, almost was killed in the Hindu-Muslim riots, and gave up his college degree by age 25. Quite a lot for any child's standards.
After 40 years, a lot of travelling, and a very special meeting by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur, the now intiated A.C. Bhaktivedanta sailed on the famous Jaladuta ship to America. His reason? To bring Krishna Consciousness to the Western World.
Rocky starts and converting crazy "sky high" hippies from self-consciousness to Krishna Consciousness were common themes for A.C. Bhaktivedanta. During this time, ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness) was started.
Fast forward another 10 years or so, and A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada had travelled all over the world multiple times, started over 100 temples all over the world, wrote hundreds of books, translated hundreds of thousands of verses, and transformed the lives of millions.
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is a religious movement founded in the scriptures of India. Based on non-sectarian ideals and the teachings of great Acharyas such as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Srila Prabhupada, ISKCON strives to practice the sankirtan movement offered for this age by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
